Phoenix, September 2010 Phoenix Chapter Meeting

Our September meeting was most informative with terrific guest speakers.

Marcella Olvera-Justic, a representative with Sterling Health Plans, spoke extensively regarding Medicare Supplements, Secondary to Original Medicare.  Her information was well received as supplemental insurance is often needed when dealing with chronic illnesses such as vasculitis, yet not always easy to find.

Mona and Bob Fisher addressed New and Emerging Therapies in Vasculitis with up to date information they learned at the recent Vasculitis Symposium in Long Beach. Mona is a Bechet’s patient, who has done extensive research to understand vasculitis diseases and continues to do all she can to be the best “student of her personal health.”  Bob shared his journey as a caregiver and how important this role is for the patient, at the same time stressing the importance of managing his own health to allow him to remain healthy for himself as well as his family.

Handouts are available on all topics; email Carole and they can be emailed to you.

Our speakers will be participating in the Phoenix Chapter blog to allow ongoing dialogue between meetings.

VASCULITIS LITERATURE

Some of our Chapter members have asked for a supply of vasculitis literature to provide to their physicians when they have their appointments.  If you would like packets of information sent to you, please let me know………….we are happy to send this to you.  It is our goal to do all we can to raise the awareness, support education and one another as we all continue to learn more about the vasculitis diseases.

Welcome to the Vasculitis Foundation Phoenix, Arizona Chapter

Welcome to our new web page for the Phoenix, Arizona Chapter!   This site is in it's infancy and will be evolving as a place to visit for information, support and up to date Chapter information and is being developed for patients, caregivers, family, friends, and medical professionals  who are seeking the most up to date information that is available today regarding vasculitis diseases.

The Phoenix Chapter was begun in 2006 and we have had ongoing meetings four - five times a year since then.  Between meeting times, we stay in touch with one another to lend support as well as information that may be helpful depending upon what one's needs are at any given time.  We are very pleased to meet at the Mayo Clinic Hospital, which is located at 56th Street and Mayo Boulevard, in Phoenix.  We always find it helpful to clarify that we meet at the "hospital and not the clinic, which is in Scottsdale."  Folks sometimes think the Scottsdale location is actually the hospital.
